Master Corporal Jeffrey Scott Walsh was born in Saskatoon, he grew up in Avonlea and Regina, SK.  A member of The 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based in CFB Shilo, MB.  Jeff worked to continually help others, to improve himself, to grow in his career and to follow his sense of duty to his community and globally.

Family was everything and time spent was cherished - the simple beautiful quiet moments in life either colouring on the floor, helping with homework or walks in the woods. Those that were close to Jeff knew he held a mischievous side and loved to play pranks on friends and loved ones, able to bring humour and always make someone smile.

Whether it was detailing the vehicle on Sundays or helping build the family home, Jeff was meticulous and thorough, wanting to ensure everything was done correctly.

Jeff was always conscious of keeping his body healthy and was passionate about lifting weights from an early age.  He enjoyed competing with his peers during base events, he once pulled an army vehicle with his bare hands. Jeff was a handsome, physically strong man, with a mind of his own and a very soft heart.

Talented with a gift and the ability to write, Jeff wrote a poem to explain why he went to Afhganistan so people could understand the importance of his selfless decision to protect others. Monsters in the Dark was written in relation to Sept. 11, 2001 after his daughter Avery asked him why he had to go.

Monsters in the Dark
by MCpl Jeffrey Walsh
I know that they are out there:
I will not be ignorant anymore;
Pulling the blanket over my head will not keep them
from coming ashore;
Instead I choose to confront them
as afraid as I might be;
Because if I don't stop the monsters
our children can never be free.
